AENA announces 14 new Northern European routes to Alicante-Elche Airport from Q4 2026
Spain's AENA airport operator confirmed expansion of Alicante-Elche (ALC) terminal capacity by 22% and secured commitments from Ryanair, easyJet, and Wizz Air for 14 new routes connecting Scandinavia, Netherlands, and Germany starting October 2026. The €180M terminal modernization, co-funded by EU Connecting Europe Facility, includes immigration fast-track lanes and expanded baggage handling. Routes include Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo, Amsterdam secondary slots, and four German regional cities with combined estimated 1.8M additional annual passengers.
Avena analysis.
Historical comparables include Faro Airport's 2019 expansion (+9.2% property prices within 50km over 11 months), Malaga's T3 opening in 2010 (+11.3% Costa del Sol over 14 months), and Alicante's own 2011 route additions (+6.8% over 9 months). Northern European buyer demand for Costa Blanca properties correlates strongly (r=0.81) with direct flight availability, with Scandinavian and Dutch buyers representing 34% of foreign transactions in Alicante province. The announcement de-risks flight frequency concerns that have suppressed valuations since pandemic capacity reductions. Falsifiability: Signal invalidated if airline commitments are withdrawn before September 2026, if EU CEF co-funding is reallocated, or if fewer than 10 routes actually launch by Q1 2027.
