Málaga designated EU Digital Innovation Hub
European Commission has designated Málaga as one of 8 new EU Digital Innovation Hubs, with €340M in EU + private co-funding for 2026-2029. Focus on AI, fintech, and digital health. Expected to anchor 4,000-7,000 high-skill jobs over the funding period.
Avena analysis.
Comparable EU Digital Hub designations (Eindhoven 2014, Tallinn 2017, Lisbon 2019) all produced sustained property appreciation in the host city of 5-9% over 24-36 month windows, with strongest impact on rental yields in apartment segment. Málaga is already experiencing tech-driven demand (Google opened center in 2023, Vodafone hub 2025). This designation accelerates an existing trajectory rather than creating new demand from scratch. Watch for apartment yield compression in central Málaga within 18 months.
